Winnipeg Airports Authority is saddened to learn of the passing of César Pelli. His vision and talent shaped cities around the world, including Winnipeg.
His iconic design of the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport is rooted in the two words he shared after experiencing our city: open and connected.
Those among us that had the good fortune of hearing him reflect on what that meant will always remember the time spent with a true architectural visionary. His eyes would fill with light as he spoke of the openness of both our people and the incredible landscape that his design should bring in to the passenger's consciousness.
His voice would rise as he elaborated on his realization of how incredibly connected our community was, both to each other and to the land. To fully comprehended the success of that vision as translated into the art of his design, you need to elevate your sights to a higher plane where we can all see his translation of what binds us together.
We are proud to remain forever connected to him through the beautiful structure we call home. Rest In Peace.
